Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep. These interruptions, known as apneas, can last for several seconds to minutes and may occur multiple times throughout the night. The most common type of sleep apnea is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), where the airway becomes partially or completely blocked during sleep, leading to breathing difficulties.

How it Occurs ?

In Obstructive Sleep Apnea, the airway muscles relax excessively during sleep, causing the soft tissues at the back of the throat to collapse and block the airway. This obstruction reduces the airflow, resulting in breathing pauses. The brain detects the drop in oxygen levels and briefly wakes the individual to reopen the airway, leading to disrupted sleep patterns.
